I am an experienced counsellor accredited with both the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy BACP - www.bacp.co.uk) and with the EMDR Association of UK & Ireland (Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing - www.emdr.com) and adhere to the BACP Codes of Practice.
My experience in counselling includes work in private practice, schools, GP surgery, child counselling service and a charitable counselling service over a period of 12 years.
Working in Taunton as a counsellor, I offer an integrative, client-centred approach, working with adults and children over 14. I consider that confidentiality, in a safe, discreet environment, gives the best opportunity for exploration of elements which may consciously or unconsciously cause difficulties in daily life. Where appropriate, I integrate the use of EMDR which is an effective treatment for PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) & recommended as such by the NICE (National Institute for Clinical Excellence) Guidelines. EMDR has also been proved as beneficial for less obvious traumas such as long-term abuse or neglect whether as child or adult & in the treatment of anxiety-based disorders, depression & self-esteem issues. To complement working with trauma, anxiety & depression I frequently integrate the use of mindfulness practice, a very user-friendly form of meditative relaxation.
